Phishing Scam Targets Creators Through Inflated Partnership Offers

A sophisticated phishing campaign targeting gambling creators and streamers has emerged, disguising itself as a legitimate casino partnership opportunity. The operation centers around a fake online casino known as Wagerz, which appears to have been built primarily to steal cryptocurrency from victims rather than operate as a legitimate gambling platform.

How the Scam Works

It has been reported by multiple creators that unlike traditional phishing attacks that rely on fake login pages or malicious email attachments, this campaign takes a far more convincing approach.

The attackers conduct partnership outreach with inflated offers, then request that creators open their computer terminals and paste a random "token", in doing so would launch an executable file that allegedly contained the wallet drainer itself.

Why This Attack Is Different

Crypto phishing is nothing new, but this campaign stands out for several reasons:

  • It targets the gambling creators rather than retail users.
  • The phishing attempt is embedded inside an apparently legitimate business workflow.
  • The fake casino infrastructure is polished enough to create a false sense of legitimacy.
  • Victims are socially engineered through partnership discussions with inflated offers instead of urgency or fear.

This combination of at first glance operating platform, aggressive offers / recruitment tactics, and malicious wallet permissions significantly increases the likelihood that even experienced crypto users could be caught off guard.

What to look out for

Creators and affiliates should remain vigilant when engaging with unknown or new operators, especially if requested to perform the following actions:

  • Requests to run terminal or command-line commands. No legitimate casino or affiliate partner should require you to paste commands into Terminal, PowerShell, or Command Prompt as part of the onboarding process.
  • Pressure to connect or sign with your primary wallet. If you're asked to connect a wallet or approve transactions before you can even evaluate the platform, proceed with extreme caution. Use a burner wallet when testing unfamiliar services.
  • Inflated sponsorship offers. Compensation that far exceeds industry norms (particularly from an unknown operator with no established reputation) should be treated as a significant warning sign.

Ultimately creators should be maintaining a skeptical approach when engaging with unknown operators, it’s the most effective defense against these sophisticated social engineering tactics.

Industry Implications

The continued rapid growth of the crypto gambling industry has attracted many eyes, including those of malicious actors and they are moving away from broad phishing attempts toward targeted social engineering.

These malicious operators pose a significant threat to the broader reputation of legitimate gambling brands. By mimicking authentic partnership workflows, fraudulent platforms undermine the foundational trust of the affiliate ecosystem, creating a climate of skepticism that hinders genuine collaboration with emerging projects.

The lesson is simple: a polished website and a generous sponsorship offer are not proof of legitimacy.
